National Reading Week - 1st Grade Loved It!

In observance of national reading week, the first grade classes at SCS had many guest readers visit in order to promote and encourage reading development. Stories such as Arthurs Thanksgiving and the Rainbow Fish were read, much to the delight of the students. A special thank you is extended to all of those who volunteered and made this a memorable time for our students.

At SCS, starting in kindergarten students are required to be able to read in order to graduate. Students further develop and hone these vital skills in first grade though continued study of phonics and practical training. Schaumburg Christian School understands the importance of being able to not only read, but to understand what is being read. Therefore, comprehension is also developed along with verbal reading skills as part of its core curriculum.

Parents can also play an important role in developing reading skills by simply reading exciting stories and adventures to their child and by having their child read to them. Developing a love for reading helps motivate students to increase their reading skills and will go a long ways towards academic success.
