SCS provides a balanced education for 3 year old preschool.
Literacy concepts are taught by hearing and retelling stories from quality children’s literature including classics, nursery rhymes, poetry, and finger plays.
The children also learn reading readiness skills such as turning pages and learning the left to right reading direction, remembering details in the stories, expressing their ideas and observations.
The begin to recognize the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet and they learn foundational phonetic sounds.
Small Motor Development
Children’s little hands and fingers are not ready to hold a pencil and write. Instead they enjoy experimenting with lines, shapes and scribbles. We provide the opportunity to exercise those small muscles through coloring, cutting, painting, lacing, gluing, tracing, clay play, etc. These activities are not only enjoyable; but also helpful in strengthening a correct grip and control of their fingers, and hand/eye coordination.

Our goal is to enable them to count and recognize the numbers and understand the concept of one-to-one correlation. They have a delightful numbers workbook, and a puppet friend called Button Bear that helps reinforce their lessons. Other cognitive skills are developed, such as sorting, sequencing, classifying, evaluating, matching, measuring, geometric shapes, logical thinking, problem solving, etc.
Not only do the children sing daily with their teachers, but they also have regular visits from our music teacher. The children develop musical skills by listening, clapping and marching to music, playing the rhythm instruments, practicing and participating in our Christmas and spring programs.
Participating in arts and crafts opens up a wide range of activities for our children to explore and create. They will experiment with the various media available crayons, markers, paint, clay, glue, brushes, sponges, scissors, papier-mâché, etc.
Our curriculum covers thematic studies throughout the year about weather, seasons, animals, planting, health, safety, community helpers, American holidays, international days, field trips, and many more topics relating to the world around them. Our kindergarten students observe the marvel of the solar system, and the mysteries of the underwater world.
Running, jumping, climbing, balancing and energetic movement is essential to the muscle development and fitness of our children. Preschoolers play every day on the outdoor playground or in our indoor play areas.
A well-rounded education for preschoolers and kindergartners includes social and personal character development, using Biblical principles. Our school parents often tell us that the character development is one of the things that attracted them to our school; because they are working to instill in their children’s lives at home the same principles that we try to instill in their hearts at school. The school becomes an extension of the home. We look to the future. They will not remain small children; they eventually will grow into elementary students, then teenagers, and then young adults. Now is the best time to teach biblical values, good manners, cooperative interaction and communication with others, study skills, and proper work ethics. Our administration, teachers and staff are committed and unified to this important mission.
